Birmingham is home to thousands of curry houses with many more set to open. It is no secret that us Brummies love a good curry, we were that obsessed with it we invented the Balti, and where would we be without that aye?
But did you know what Birmingham and the UK’s curry culture was born out of the Bangladeshi community.
The Knights of the Raj Exhibition is brought to you by Soul City Arts, fronted by Mohammad Ali, the exhibition successfully captures the untold stories and struggles of the Bangladeshi community.
This three-month long exhibition features rare photographs, unique artefacts, videos, interactive displays and oral histories that tell the fascinating story of the much-loved British Curry. More pieces and info are due to be added along the way. This is an amazing opportunity to immerse yourself in the history of the Birmingham curry house.
Kaleidoscope Imaging Ltd having been working alongside Mohammed and the team at Soul City Arts for several weeks. Firstly scanning the old photographs bought to us and then producing all the graphics for display in two rooms at the Museum. We produced the graphics onto a self-adhesive material which was fitted directly to the museum walls giving a nice flush finish – overall bringing this great concept to life!
The exhibition has gone down a storm and fingers crossed this unique exhibition will be seen in other parts of the country.
